SECAUCUS, N.J. – The 2024 Rug Show celebrated its 14th year, offering dealers and designers across the U.S. a diverse selection of both trendy and timeless designs, along with unique artistic creations. The event took place from September 7-9 at the Meadowlands Expo Center, providing attendees with an exclusive shopping experience that helps them avoid the challenges of online comparison shopping.

As visitors explored the aisles, they encountered Farshchi’s remarkable 24-foot mansion-sized Tabriz, beautifully reimagined in soft cream shades for modern interiors. Art Resources featured striking abstract designer carpets alongside its new Exotic Fibers collection, which included luxurious materials such as merino wool and mulberry silk.

Rug & Kilim showcased stunning mid-century Scandinavian designs, highlighting innovative weaves and bold fashion colors. “We’re thriving and expanding, and being in the city makes The Rug Show convenient for us and our guests,” noted Cyrus Nazmiyal, vice president of Rug & Kilim. “While the industry has faced some challenges this year, we’re a growing company and want to reach a broader audience,” he added.

The show floor was adorned with exquisite examples of craftsmanship from weaving hubs in Afghanistan, Turkey, Egypt, and Southwest Persia. The global allure of these area rugs is amplified by the exhibitors’ commitment to supporting weavers, particularly those in Afghanistan, in enhancing their livelihoods through their artistry.

“This is a new Andkhuy,” said Roz Rustigian of Rustigian Rugs at the stand of Andkhuy Rugs, based in San Francisco. With advancements in dyes, fashionable color palettes, and designs that respond to current trends, rugs from companies like Andkhuy are becoming increasingly significant to Rustigian.

“The Rug Show provides a unique platform in North America for showcasing our artisans’ work to a global audience,” stated Sanjay Purohit, a consultant for Turquoise Mountain and an experienced figure in the fine carpet industry. “Our mission is to assist Afghan weavers and producers in enhancing their efficiency and expanding their market presence. Afghan carpet makers are already capable of producing beautiful rugs, and we believe they can achieve even more.”

At the 2024 Rug Show, attendees discovered innovative ideas from international brands and enjoyed reconnecting with industry colleagues.

Exhibitors focusing on Afghan carpets impressed visitors with updated dyeing and spinning techniques, fresh color palettes, and modern designs, often displayed alongside classic pieces reinterpreted for contemporary living.

Kehkashan Rugs presented Aryana, Faryab, and Nooristan designs, expertly crafted with high-quality dyes and handspun wool, each representing distinct Afghan provinces known for their unique styles. Softly striated solid colors in trending tones also caught the eye.

Afghan Bazar Rugs introduced a stylish selection of woven runners in contemporary neutrals, complementing its array of renowned carpet designs and kilims.

Alpine Rugs showcased an impressive collection, featuring buyers Hossein Rezai and Dawn Rezai from Persian Rugs & More alongside Alpine’s Sami and Habibullah Nazar.

Andkhuy Rugs displayed an abstract Faryab design, with Rustigian team members Roz Rustigian and Pauline Kobylar interacting with the Andkhuy team.

Neman International attracted positive attention for its intricately woven Serape and Super Kazak designs.

Art Resources unveiled its sold-out Marrakesh collection, highlighting new Exotic Fibers options that include luxurious materials such as mulberry silk and merino wool.

At Satar, classic Oushak designs received a modern update in spice pink, impressing attendees with their contemporary flair.

Turquoise Mountain showcased innovative Afghan contemporary designs, featuring hand-knotted pieces with silk accents, illustrating the exceptional talent of Afghan weavers.
